Giving Your Garden a Summer Makeover

The good weather has (finally) arrived, which means that everyone is now looking to get out and enjoy the sunshine. The best place to do this is in your own backyard as you get complete privacy and never have to travel too far for a cold beverage or for a snack. In order to really make the most of the best time of the year, you will want to give your garden a summer makeover.

Tidying

The first stage to this will be tidying the area. After months of cold weather and neglect, it is likely that your garden is looking a little worse for wear. Mow the lawn, trim back the hedges, collect debris and sweep any pavement surfaces to make it a brighter and more attractive space.

 Fresh Paint

The winter months will also have taken its toll on any fencing, sheds or gates and leave them looking drab. Give them a good clean and then provide them with a fresh coat of paint – this will make an enormous difference to how the backyard looks and feels.

New Plant Life

The best thing about relaxing in the garden is being surrounded by nature. Bring some colour and life into your garden by purchasing bright new flowers and other plant life.  In addition to improving the aesthetic of the space and improving your mood, having plant life will also encourage you to get out each day and tend to your plants – this is good for both your physical and mental wellbeing.

Outdoor Furniture

In order to really relax you will want to bring the indoors outside. This means purchasing some high-quality outdoor furniture – much like indoor furniture, this should be seen as a long-term investment. Ideally, you will want a table with a few chairs so that you can eat outside and have a few friends over to enjoy the space. Bistro sets are a great idea as they are very stylish and can fit even in the smallest of spaces.

Fun & Games

Finally, you will want a few games that you can play outside (especially if you have little ones). There are all kinds of terrific lawn games to consider and many of these you do not even need a large space to play. You can then fire up the barbecue, invite some friends over and start enjoying the summer in the privacy of your own home

If you’re planning to do a bit more gardening than the average plant pot will allow, take it up a level and experiment with this wooden planter. You can modify it to your needs by removing the shelf and tray. It’ll allow you to make your plants a bit more noticeable by giving them more room to bloom.

Nice post and helpful for us as we recently moved to a new house a few months back and need to put our touch on the garden. It’s a smaller garden than we had before but I think a fresh bit of paint on the shed and fence will make a nice difference. This post has given me a few ideas too, thanks.
