Considering Moving Overseas? Things to Consider

Are you Considering moving to a new country for a better life? It’s a bold move but could be one of the best things you’ve ever done. Before you make the decision, here are some things to consider.

Work

One of the biggest considerations when you’re moving overseas is work, you need to be able to support yourself and your family. If you’re thinking of relocating because of work then this is already sorted, if not, it’s something you’ll need to get organised before going out there. You may need to fly out in advance of moving and go to job interviews and speak to companies. Another option would be to just take any job you can get so you can support yourself in the short run, and then apply for career and jobs you want to be doing after that so you can take your time and find the right thing for you. If you have a side hustle, or are able to get a job working from home before you move away then this can be ideal. As you can essentially take your job anywhere with you and know you have that guaranteed income when you reach your new destination.

Schools

When you’re moving with a family, your children’s school is of course going to be a top priority. You’ll need to consider what the education system is like in the part of the world that you’re moving to. If it’s not as good as where you live now, then home schooling could be the best option. If you’re moving to a very different place in the world then you may have to consider any language barriers and have some extra tuition set up so you and your children can learn the language.

Property

Finding a place to live is the next step, there are a few ways you can go about this. If you dont mind travelling back and forth before you move, you could view houses and purchase or rent somewhere ready to move into before you go. Then have a moving company specialising in overseas jobs take everything to your new place. Another alternative is to move over with just the basics, and stay in a hotel or short term accommodation while you find a place to live. Then have everything shipped over once you’re moved in and ready.

Extended family

Moving to a new place in the world could be a great move for your family. It can mean a better job, a better house, better prospects and nicer surroundings. However, moving away from the rest of your family is always going to be hard. If you’re particularly close to them, you’ll need to consider how moving away will affect you all and if you’ll cope. Thanks to the internet, social media and video chats it’s easy to stay in touch these days but it’s never going to be easy being far away from those you care about. Give this thorough consideration before you move away.
