#Blogtober17 Day 12 – Love

So, today is all about love, I mentioned briefly in my first post about our meeting, so here it is in full.
Asa and I had worked behind the bar at a local leisure centre for the summer season, I spent my days taking care of the children on the summer camp and then spent my evenings working in the bar, I would always check each week who I was working with, and I guess that was the first inkling as i always smiled when I saw it was Asa.
Throughout the six week summer season we would spend hours chatting, whilst working, and having competitions about who was the fastest to serve a round ( I usually won, unless he pinched one of my pints I had running at the other end of the bar!)
I can remember one night Asa not working but he came into the bar with his friend Alan (who would one day be his best man) they had just been to watch Trainspotting, funny enough we watched T2 the other night and we started chatting about that particular night, I can still remember exactly what he was wearing!
Towards the end of the season Asa mentioned that his time in Norfolk was nearly over as he had been offered a job back in Surrey where he used to live. I missed his final night working as I had twisted my ankle really badly, playing basketball with the children and had been taken off to hospital in an ambulance!
He left me a message to say he would be back for a couple of nights in two weeks time and we all arranged to go to the local nightclub. I was quite nervous on that night and when I saw him he ran over to me and spun me round, I think it was at that point I realised just how much I had missed him, we spent the entire evening together, we arranged to meet up the following evening at the local pub, this time it was just us, plus his sister and her husband. We spent hours chatting and the next day was when he collected all his belongings and left to start his new life, but it didn’t quite work out like that.
The next two weeks we spent hours on the phone to each other, I just knew deep down that he was ‘the one’ and if I didn’t do something I would definitely regret it for the rest of my life. I went to the local newsagents and bought a copy of The Lady magazine, circled 5 nannying job possibilities and then rang the relevant agencies, within a week I was in Surrey attending 3 different interviews, all within 20 minutes of where Asa was living (crazy really!) I was offered all three, but decided on one in Esher taking care of 3 little boys (2 families) working Monday to Friday 7am-7pm and a live-in position, which meant I had every evening and every weekend free to spend with the love of my life. We had a brilliant 3 months, we would go out to a different country pub most evenings and take off for the weekend, sometimes coming home, others booking a B&B somewhere.
Towards the end of November I had to make a decision, as I had been offered a Nursing degree back in Norfolk, starting in the January, was I to stop nannying and start my nursing career or stay in Surrey. It was made much easier as Asa decided he preferred Norfolk, so we both moved back! We rented a little flat and Asa secured a duty manager role at the leisure centre we had previously worked at and I started my nursing degree.
So many people thought I was crazy (including my own parents!) but I just knew deep down that it was the right decision, and now 21 years later, I definitely know it was the correct decision.
