Big Family Truths Only Parents Understand

Deciding to have kids is a personal choice, but once you do it, you’ll want more and more. Children bring so much joy and excitement into your life that it’s hard to look past the negatives, of which there are a few! Of course, the pros outweigh the cons.

Still, it’s important to understand what you’re getting yourself into when you decide to increase the size of your family. After all, a big family isn’t for everybody, and you may realise that you prefer a traditional setup.

With that in mind, here is a selection of truths only big families understand!

The House Is Messy

All of the time. It doesn’t matter how much you try to clean it because the clutter builds up instantly. That’s not to say your home is dirty or untidy or that you can’t make your life easier – a cordless vacuum will transform your life! However, it can feel as if you’re swimming against a tide of clutter, and for those who like a neat house, it could be an issue. As big family mums and dads will tell you, there’s an element of putting up with the mess until some of the kids have flown the nest!

And Small

Again, your house could be pretty large. Again, it will feel suffocating at times since people or belongings will take up every inch of it. Whether you go from the bathroom to the garage or living room, someone or something will be there. The likes of Storage Stockport are integral to large families as a unit gives you an opportunity to free up floor space. Even if you don’t think you need it, it’s worth considering as you can’t store all the family’s personal items without a little help.

Hand-Me-Downs Are Necessary Evils

Unless you speak to your eldest, who won’t care about hand-me-downs since they’ve never had them, it’s a topic worth swerving where possible. Children just want new stuff because they see something shiny and crave it, yet hand-me-downs go against everything they stand for. Unfortunately for them, they are necessary as it’s not possible to buy expensive clothes and accessories for multiple kids at the same time. From phones to jackets and cars, they save you money and ensure that everyone is treated equally, even if they are worse for wear by the time they reach the youngest! If in doubt, Moms.com has a guide

It’s Okay To Feel Overwhelmed

Breaking news: families don’t always see eye to eye! There’s nothing as conventional as a family squabble, but as a parent of a large gaggle of kids, you hate the idea that the size of your family impacts your life. On the flip side, there’s less room, more arguments, and constant background noise preventing you from enjoying the peace and quiet and relaxing. So, it’s not hard to see why there’s a lot to deal with. Regardless, you’ll never regret the choice you made to extend your family, which is why it’s okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes.

Now you know some home truths, will you have a big family?

  1. This post is so humorous! I don’t have kids and never will, and in a way your post reminded me why. However, I can also see that some people badly want children and once they have them, the love is so overflowing that they want more.
