Apple Pie Doughnuts

Holy Moly, these Apple Pie Doughnuts are what fall dreams are made of. While these are a great breakfast treat, you can easily bake these up and enjoy them anytime that you want. These fall doughnuts would be great with a hot cup of coffee in the morning or just a fun treat for the kids at the end of the day. 

I love the apple flavors that are present in this simple recipe. It really takes them to a whole new level. Anything apple is delicious and at this time in my life, is a high priority as well.

Ingredients to make Apple Pie Doughnuts 

  • 1 ½ C flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ¾ C light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ C buttermilk
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice
  • 1 disposable piping bag

Streusel Topping:

  • 12 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • ⅔ C sugar
  • 1 ½ C flour

Vanilla glaze :

  • 1  C powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 8oz Apple Pie Filling

 

How to make Doughts that taste like Apple Pie 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a doughnut pan with pam baking spray.

Using a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and apple pie spice.

Using a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, buttermilk, melted butter and vanilla.

Gradually whisk in the dry ingredients into the wet until combined.

Scoop the batter into the piping bag.

Fill the doughnut cavity with the batter.

Bake in the oven for 11-13 minutes or until a light golden brown.

Remove from oven and allow to cool.

Remove the doughnuts from the pan and place onto a wire rack.

To make the streusel topping:

Combine all ingredients into a medium bowl.

Using your finger, work the mixture into a coarse like crumble.

To make the vanilla glaze:

Using a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla until combined.

Building the doughnuts :

Dip the doughnuts into the vanilla glaze and place onto the wire rack.

Sprinkle some streusel on top of the donuts and scoop apple pie filling into the center of the doughnuts.
